UNDERSTANDING EXPENSES
The Federal Trade Commission has created two forms pertaining to funeral expenses. One of these forms is called the General Price List (GPL) and the other Statement of Funeral Services and Goods Selected. Federal Law mandates that we physically hand you a copy of the general price list as we begin the arrangement process, whether it be at–need or pre–need. The General Price List contains information pertaining to various items and services this funeral home can offer you and the fees associated with them.
The second form we will give you, the Statement of Funeral Services and Goods Selected, will be given to you once all of the arrangements have been completed. Unlike the GPL, this will be unique to the funeral you have arranged. Though most funeral homes use this "statement" as a bill, we do not. As the law requires, we will ask you to sign it and then we will send you a bill a few weeks after the arrangements have been made. The money for which the family will be responsible on the day of the services is usually only the honorarium for the Rabbi, and then only if required.
